Write a ballad that is a minimum of five quatrains in length, or twenty lines. Each quatrain must be written in iambic meter with alternating lines of tetrameter and trimeter (or a syllable count of 8686). The rhyme scheme must be either abab or abcb. You may include variations of rhythm and rhyme while maintaining this overall ballad structure. The content of your ballad must be “lyrical,” ie., like an “utterance that is overheard,” and must concern matters that are of an emotive, personal or relational nature.
